Picha is a primal goregrind/noise act from Costa Rica, born in 2000 and led by founder Noisegrinder. With a cult following across Latin America and Spain, the band is known for its raw extremity, controversial humor, and explosive live shows.
Biography
Formed in 2000, Picha began as a noisecore/grindnoise experiment before quickly carving its name into the underground with raw demos like Culiando Renalmente and Carepicha. Their first full-length, La barba de Osama me raspa los webos (2002), made history as the first noise band from Costa Rica to record in a professional studio, gaining cult status in Costa Rica, Mexico, and Spain. Over the years, despite constant lineup changes, Noisegrinder has carried the project forward, evolving it into a one-man force of relentless goregrind chaos, releasing numerous albums, EPs, splits, and digital collections that cemented the band’s reputation across the global extreme music community.
Picha’s story is one of resilience and extremity: from split releases with bands like Neisseria Ghonoherroeae and Impaled Cunts, to acclaimed records such as Hecho Picha (2024), their music thrives on provocative themes, humor, and unfiltered noise. Live appearances were rare for nearly two decades, but since 2019 Picha has become a more frequent live act, with Noisegrinder enlisting guest musicians for ferocious shows. Highlights include sharing the stage with Suffocation, Incantation, and Belphegor in 2022, as well as headlining every show they’ve played in Costa Rica, turning Picha from an underground anomaly into one of the country’s most notorious extreme metal exports.
